University of Kassel (International Centre for Development and Decent Work), Germany

The ICDD is an interdisciplinary and international scientific network of excellence with the head office located at the University of Kassel (Germany) and partner universities in Latin America, Africa and Asia. It co-operates closely with the International Labour Organization (ILO) and various NGOs. The ICDD is funded by the programme “ex)/(ceed – Higher Education Excellence in Development Cooperation” launched by the German Federal Ministry for Economic Cooperation and Development (BMZ) through the German Academic Exchange Service (DAAD). The ICDD partner universities include:

  • Universidad Autónoma de Yucatan (UADY), Mexico, in agricultural science;
  • Universidade Estadual de Campinas (Unicamp), Brazil, in economics;
  • University of Cape Coast (UCC), Ghana, in development studies;
  • Egerton University (EGU), Kenya, in agricultural science;
  • University of Agriculture Faisalabad (UAF), Pakistan, in Agriculural science;
  • University of Kassel, Germany, in agricultural science;
  • University of Kassel, Germany, in the social sciences;
  • Tata Institute of Social Sciences (TISS), India, in labour studies;
  • University of the Witwatersrand (Wits), South Africa, in sociology.

Trent University, Canada

Trent in Ghana (TIG) is a partnership between Trent University, Canada and the Institute for Development Studies, University of Cape Coast where third year Canadian students from Trent University come to Africa, Ghana, to be precise to study with Ghanaian graduate students for one academic year.

University of Bradford, UK

The University of Bradford, UK proposed to partner with the Institute to provide a platform for development practitioners and academics to interact and share their experiences in research partnership between Universities and Institutions in the Global North.

During the 2016/2017 academic year, a delegation of 2 Faculty and 14 students from the University of Bradford’s Department of Peace Studies and International Development visited the Institute on 24th February, 2017. The visit enabled the students understand the conditions and infrastructure for peace and conflict prevention in a stable African country.

University of Antwerp (Institute for Development Policy)

The Institute of Development Studies (IDS), through the University of Cape Coast signed a Memorandum of Understanding with the Institute for Development Policy (IOB), through the University of Antwerp. The MoU sets out the framework and foundations for academic exchange between the two institutions. Under this MoU, 2 alumni from the IDS were funded by the Flemish Inter-Universities and Colleges Board (VLUR) in Belgium to pursue advanced master’s degrees in development studies at the University of Antwerp (IOB) between 2015 and 2017.
